Team Fowles Will Seek Las Vegas Title

Two of the nation’s elite team — one from the Midwest and one from the South — will be headed to the FILA Sixty-Four event in Las Vegas. The Mac Irvin Fire Godfather team and the Miami Sun Team Fowles recently met in the finals of the FILA Nationals, with the Mac Irvin club prevailing, 48-43.

The FILA Sixty-Four, which will include over 48 national teams, will be played at the Westin Lake Las Vegas from July 27-30. This is one part of a series of previews for the FILA Sixty-Four where we will highlight the outstanding programs who will be competing.

Three marque players powered the Fire team at the FILA Nationals. Khaalia Hillsman is a 6-4 center who is rated as the No 38 prospect in the Class of 2014 by the All Star Girls Report. Jasmine Lumpkin is a 6-0 wing who has committed to Michigan State. ASGR has Lumpkin at No. 22 in the Class of 2014. While Hillsman and Lucas are both Top 50 recruits, the most exciting player for the Fire is Kiara Lewis. Lewis is a 5-8 point guard who is rated as the No. 14 prospect in the Class of 2016 by ASGR.
“I think some people forgot about Kiara when she hurt her knee last year, but she is getting stronger and stronger,” said Fire program director Mac Irvin. “She has a great basketball IQ and a feel for the game, and she can hit the deep three.”
The Miami Suns Team Fowles unit also has considerable talent. The top performers for Team Fowles include a trio of 2014 prospects — Keyanna Harris is a 5-11 wing (ranked No. 98 by ASGR), Shakoa Edwards is a 5-2 point guard (No. 520), and Aisha Edwards is a 5-7 guard (No. 113). In the Class of 2015, the Miami squad features 6-5 center Beatrice Mompremier (No. 26) and 5-10 guard Crystal Primm (No. 98).
