Team Fowles Wins 17u National Bracket at Deep South Classic

A great weekend of Suns basketball saw lots of improvement, teamwork, heart and a championship.

Team Fowles won the 17U National Bracket this weekend in Raleigh, NC. Koa Edwards & Aisha Edwards stole the show as they were awarded co-MVP honors. The 2013 championship marks the 4th time that Team Fowles wins the Deep South Classic in the last 10 years.

Other Suns teams had a great showing at the Deep South Classic.

The Suns 2014 squad went 4-1 and finished in 2nd place in 17u Open Bracket. 2014 had great contributions from Tammora Graham, Shanaya Jones and Nicole Dixon.

Suns 2015 team went 0-3 , but played hard from tip to buzzer and definitely caught the eye of many college coaches who checked in on them. Suns 2015 team received outstanding play from G Nicole Jiminez, C Teresa Russell, and F JJ Baptiste in the tournament. Coach Ambrose will have this group ready to compete at Spring Fling ll in May.

The Suns 9th Grade team bounced back from their showing at the FGB Spring Showcase in Lakeland and went 2-2 at Deep South. They had outstanding contributions from Andrisa Sweeting,  Makayla Thomas, Veronica Minervino, and Veronica Vidal.

The talented Larkins group of 8th & 9th graders Team Larkins started their 2013 travel season with a big showing in the 15u National bracket at Deep South. Head Coaches (University of Fla, University Miami, Central Fla, USF, UGA, FAU, Coastal Carolina), Asst Coaches from FSU, LSU, GTech and many others were keeping a close eye on all 9 Team Larkins players this weekend as they went 3-1 and lost to a very solid FGB team in the Semifinals. Coach Maye and the team will be ready for Spring Fling ll to get back to the Championship Game again this year.

The Red Elite squad also went 3-1, losing in the quarterfinals of the 17U signature bracket. Red Elite caught the eye of many college coaches with their tremendous play on both sides of the ball. This group enjoys playing for Coach Boozer and it shows as they are one of the top 17u teams in the country. Although a cold shooting game led to a tough loss in the quarterfinals, Red Elite impressed the coaches with their effort. They were lead by their outstanding backcourt Emily Williams, Amanda Mendoza, Katie Reinas, Melanie Jordan, and excellent effort from Jazmine Martin.

While at Deep South, six players picked up official scholarship offers.

Overall, we are proud of all of our teams. A tremendous effort by all 6 teams, players, coaches and parents.
