Miami Suns Launch Miami Suns Academy to Develop Local Girls Basketball Talent in South Florida
The Miami Suns are excited to announce a new basketball academy, the Suns Academy, which will focus on developing 4th through 12th grade girls in South Florida aspiring to improve their basketball fundamentals and gain experience competing locally. The Academy will train players 2-3 times a week and compete in local tournaments and leagues.
The Suns Academy will sit within the broader Miami Suns program with the intent of targeting players who are newer to basketball and want to participate in competitive basketball environments without taking on the commitments required of a full travel team schedule. Hence, all games and tournaments will take place locally within the South Florida region with teams practicing about 2-3 times a week, but Suns Academy players will still have access to the network, coaching, and resources of the broader Miami Suns network to support their personal and athletic development.
As detailed by Miguel Diaz, the Program Director of the Miami Suns, the Suns Academy will “We are excited to provide an opportunity for players of all ages and levels to develop their skills and pursue their love for the game of basketball. Our coaches’ extensive knowledge and passion can now be shared with players at different points in their basketball journey and accompany them as they learn to play the game at a higher level.” The broader Suns leadership team hopes that the Suns Academy will allow the program to broaden and expand its ability to leverage basketball to open up new opportunities for girls in Florida and develop the next generation of civic and athletic leaders.
